  Before we get too far into this, I am not an Aventus expert, and I do not own shelves of different batch variations. I own one bottle that is a 2022 version and that is all I need. However, I have tried various different batches. I won’t sit here and name every batch, but I will touch on some of the years, at least from what I can remember.

  I just so happened to be wearing Aventus during this and my grandmother complimented me on it. It was just a simple “you smell very nice”, but that is the only time she ever complimented me on a scent that I was wearing. She passed away in 2021, and I am not a fan of wearing scents to a funeral, but given the circumstances of her compliment, I wore Aventus. After this, I started wearing it more.

  Of course, there are different variations, like the 2018 version I have that is more blackcurrant heavy and almost has a juniper feel to it, that is smoky and makes the bergamot feel darker.

• The fresher feeling batches in 2021 are laden with citrusy goodness, and a noticeably weaker trail than other variations, but they are still beautiful scents. As I said, I am not an expert, but at some point, they stopped using real birch and cade oil and the fragrance became fresher and more energetic.

  

  I do not ascribe to the notion that newer batches are inferior or watered down. They all have their charm. As I sit here with my 2022 batch, it brings a smile to my face.

  The way that bergamot is used in this is natural and acidic, full of life, and representative of sunshine-killed bergamot groves in Italy. If there is one thing that Creed does right, it is bergamot.

  It is truthfully carried out in several of their offerings, and to me, it is simply intoxicating. I said for a long time that Aventus doesn’t have any variation outside of the reformulations, but I was wrong – it certainly does.

  

   

  I would be remiss to not talk about the clones in this article. Aventus sure has a bunch of them.

  Truthfully, none of them match the blending and quality of the Creed. Does that mean that they are bad? No, but the smell is not the same.

• I have tried at least a dozen clones that people say are spot on and none of them are. In the air, they can still smell amazing, but I am sorry, CDNIM doesn’t smell like any batch of Aventus.

  None of them have the same bergamot that Creed uses, and the pineapple is never done accurately to me. It doesn’t mean that they fail as a fragrance, but they do fail at imparting the real scent of the fabled perfume.

  

  Most people talk about the pineapple, but I think it’s actually the combo of bergamot and blackcurrant with that crispy apple accord that makes the Creed stand head and shoulders above the rest. I know people will disagree with me, but that is only my take on it.

• So, I am going to focus on the batch I own for the review because reviewing each batch will take far too much time.

  It opens with that joyous song of bergamot with creamy musk that ties in the pineapple and blackcurrant, with the watery crispiness of apple. The heart ties in a bit of woody patchouli with Hedione (which is part of what makes the DNA so attractive).

  

  It’s light on the smoky aspect and I don’t detect hardly any oakmoss in this particular batch. It’s a fresher batch that shows the more enthusiastic side of the scent, which is what I prefer. I am honestly not enthralled with the idea of smelling like a grilled fruit basket. Grilled fruit is great to eat, not to smell like.

  I have been wrong about so many things, and Aventus was one of them. I called it overhyped and generic, but that was before I gave it a fair shot. I do realize batch variations exist now, but I will live in perfect contentment with the one I have.

  

  I prefer to enjoy what I have and not obsess over the details. It’s a nice scent and I enjoy wearing it. I might get one more bottle and that will probably be the 100ml metal cap ones that people have reported are good, but I cannot comment on those yet.

  The only glaring issue for me is the price, which even amid inflation, is absurdly high for what it is. It’s almost double the price of what it launched at…and those were 120ml and not the 50ml, so you get less fragrance for double the price now, which is downright silly over a 13-year span.

  Luckily, there are resellers and discounters that sell this scent for under 250, which is about what it is worth to me.
